ICSE · Class 7 · 2026–27

ICSE Class 7, 2026–27 the year habits are made

No new board rules arrive for Class 7 this session. That makes it the calm year to build steady study habits before the two-year ICSE course begins in Class 9.

Class 7 rarely makes headlines, and that is its value. The subjects are the ones your child met in Class 6, but every chapter assumes the last one was understood: ratios lean on fractions, chemistry on the idea of matter, history on reading a source. CISCE's board examinations are still three years away, tests are set by the school, and schools choose the books for these years. The third language continues, as ICSE requires from Class 5 to Class 8. A child who learns to revise a little each day in Class 7 walks into Class 9 with a method, not just a mark sheet.

Below you will find what CISCE's documents say about this stage, the subjects most schools teach, one idea asked six ways, and three things worth watching at home.

What this year asks

Class 7 sits in the middle of the upper primary years. These CISCE rules reach into it.

Subjects most ICSE schools teach in Class 7

These are the usual subjects; your school's timetable is the final word.

  • English

Comprehension of unseen passages, composition with a clear opening, and accurate grammar.

  • Hindi (second language)

Longer reading and writing, and the confidence to answer in full sentences.

  • Third language

The school's chosen language continues; Class 7 is the middle of the four required years.

  • Mathematics

Topics that lean on fractions from earlier years, and word problems that need setting up before solving.

  • History and Civics

Events read through evidence and dates, and how laws and governments work.

  • Geography

Land, weather and people, and the skill of reading a map someone else drew.

  • Physics, Chemistry and Biology

Fair tests, careful observation and the reasons behind what happens, in three subjects.

  • Computer Studies

Using software with purpose and writing short sets of instructions in order.

  • Arts Education

Art, music or dance that gives the week a creative outlet.

What the questions will ask

Your school writes Class 7's tests, and many schools split the year into terms. Most questions check remembering and understanding. A growing number put a familiar idea in a new setting: a recipe to scale up, a map your child has not seen, a passage that is not from the textbook.

Those are "apply" and "analyse" questions, and they reward a child who understood rather than memorised. Board papers in Classes 10 and 12 lean further this way. We have not read CISCE's 2027 percentage in a CISCE document, so we give none here.

One topic, six kinds of question separating mixtures

One Chemistry idea, how to pull a mixture apart, asked six ways.

  1. Remember

Name two methods used to separate an insoluble solid from a liquid.

  2. Understand

Explain why filtering can remove sand from water but cannot remove dissolved salt.

  3. Apply

You have a mixture of iron filings, sand and salt. Which method would you use first, and why?

  4. Analyse

Evaporating seawater leaves salt; distilling it gives salt and pure water. What difference between the methods explains this?

  5. Evaluate

For water from a muddy well, one student suggests filtering and another suggests filtering then boiling. Which plan is better, and why?

  6. Create

Write a step-by-step plan to separate sawdust, sand and salt, using only things found in a kitchen.

Ideas this year rests on

Class 7 assumes Class 6 was understood, not only finished. Check these first if a subject starts to slip.

  • Fractions and decimals, which every ratio and percentage question uses.
  • The difference between solids, liquids and gases, and the idea that matter is made of tiny particles.
  • Reading a timeline, including dates before and after the Common Era.
  • Perimeter and area of a rectangle, before other shapes arrive.
  • Writing a paragraph that opens with its main point.

How SelfEnabler practises this

Habits are easier when each session has the same shape. A SelfEnabler lesson always runs the same way: a question first, then reading and a video, notes built from your child's own mistakes, a short check, and a moment to reflect on what changed.

The check starts with remembering and goes only as high as your child can genuinely reach that day, so a short daily session feels doable rather than heavy. When your child is stuck between lessons, AI Guru explains the idea again from the approved material, patiently and as often as needed.

For parents: what to watch this year

  • Revision happens only before tests

Sign: the books open the week before an exam and not otherwise. Action: agree on fifteen minutes of recall a day; short daily recall beats weekend cramming.

  • Homework done, idea not understood

Sign: the exercise is finished but your child cannot explain one sum in it. Action: pick one question a day and ask, "Why does that step work?"

  • One subject quietly slips

Sign: marks fall in one subject while others hold. Action: look at which kind of question was lost: remembering, or using the idea in a new way.

Questions parents ask about ICSE Class 7

Is the ICSE Class 7 syllabus changing in 2026–27?

We found no CISCE announcement changing Class 7 for 2026–27 when we checked on 2 October 2026. Schools choose the books for these years, so your school may still change a book; ask for this year's list.

What is the syllabus for ICSE Class 7?

Your school sets it, usually around English, Hindi, a third language, Mathematics, History and Civics, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Studies and Arts Education. CISCE publishes curriculum material for these years; we have not confirmed whether it prescribes a syllabus.

Is there a board exam in Class 7?

No. ICSE is taken at the end of Class 10 and ISC at the end of Class 12. Class 7 exams are the school's own.

How can my child score 90% in ICSE?

No one can honestly promise a mark. What helps most is understanding each topic before the next is built on it, and practising questions that use an idea, not only questions that repeat it.
