ISC Class 12, 2026–27 the board year, and what comes next
Your child sits the ISC examination in 2027, often alongside an entrance exam. Here is what is firm, what is still to come from CISCE, and how to keep understanding at the centre of a crowded year.

Class 12 is the ISC board year. Students in Class 12 in 2026–27 sit the ISC examination in 2027, the Indian School Certificate run by CISCE, at the end of the two-year course they began in Class 11. For many families this year also holds an entrance examination, so revision has two masters. When we checked on 2 October 2026, CISCE had not published the 2027 timetable, and we had not confirmed from a CISCE document what share of questions will ask for application and analysis. This page sets out what is firm, what is not yet known, and how to prepare either way.
The good news is that the best preparation for both is the same: knowing why each method works, so a new question does not feel like a trick.

What this year asks
Official facts for ISC 2027 are thin so far. These are the ones we could read on cisce.org.
ISC, the Indian School Certificate, is CISCE's Class 12 examination; ICSE is its Class 10 examination.
ICSE Regulations for Examination Year 2028 (CISCE, January 2026)
In the ISC regulations we could read, English is studied with elective subjects chosen from a list of more than thirty.
ISC Regulations 2026 (CISCE), the newest edition we could read
CISCE's own website, cisce.org, is where its regulations, syllabuses and notices appear. Treat other sites that use the CISCE name with care.
Subjects in the ISC examination
Your child continues the subjects chosen in Class 11.
English
Compulsory in the ISC regulations we read (the 2026 edition); language and literature together.
Physics
Heavy on derivations and numerical problems; JEE Main and NEET (UG) both include Physics.
Chemistry
Calculations, reactions and reasons, where Class 11 ideas return in every chapter.
Mathematics
The core of most science and commerce paths, with long, multi-step working.
Biology
Diagrams, processes and reasoning, and a subject NEET (UG) includes.
Accounts, Commerce and Business Studies
Accounts worked by hand and how organisations are run, with case-style questions.
Economics
The economy as a whole, read through data, graphs and argued answers.
Humanities and other electives
History, Political Science, Geography, Psychology, Computer Science, languages and more.
What the questions will ask
ISC papers in the sciences ask for derivations, multi-step calculations and reasons; in commerce and humanities they ask for structured, argued answers. Reports say CISCE is giving more weight to questions that apply and analyse, but we have not read the 2027 share in a CISCE document and quote none.
A practical test: when you have CISCE's specimen papers for your exam year, go through one with your child and mark which questions could be answered from memory and which need the idea put to work. Spend most revision time on the second kind.
One topic, six kinds of question rates of reaction
One Chemistry idea, how fast a reaction goes, asked six ways.
Remember
Define the rate of a chemical reaction.
Understand
Explain why crushing a marble chip makes it react faster with dilute acid.
Apply
A first-order reaction has a half-life of 20 minutes. What fraction of the reactant is left after one hour?
Analyse
Doubling the concentration of A doubles the rate; doubling B has no effect. What does this tell you about the rate law?
Evaluate
A student says a catalyst makes a reaction give more product. Is that right? Justify your answer using what a catalyst does and does not change.
Create
Plan an experiment to find how temperature affects the rate of reaction between sodium thiosulphate and dilute acid, naming what you will measure and keep the same.
Ideas this year rests on
ISC Class 12 is built directly on Class 11. These are worth checking in the first month.
- Differentiation from Class 11, used in rates, motion and economics.
- Logarithms and exponents, needed for reaction kinetics and growth problems.
- The mole idea and stoichiometry.
- Vectors and the resolution of forces.
- Reading a graph for its slope and area, not just its points.
How SelfEnabler practises this
In a year shared between boards and entrance exams, time spent on topics your child already knows is time lost. A SelfEnabler check shows, topic by topic, the deepest kind of question your child can answer today, so revision goes where it is needed.
Notes are built from your child's own mistakes and can be downloaded for revision. AI Guru explains an idea again from the approved lesson material, at whatever hour the doubt arrives. When a topic is "not yet", a person steps in to help.

For parents: what to watch this year
Two timetables collide
Sign: board revision and entrance tests are planned separately. Action: put both on one weekly plan, starting with topics that serve both.
Mock scores rise, understanding does not
Sign: speed improves but the same mistakes return. Action: ask your child to explain one wrong answer each week, in their own words.
Sleep is the first thing cut
Sign: late nights before every test. Action: protect a regular bedtime; tired revision rarely sticks.
Questions parents ask about ISC Class 12
When is the ISC 2027 exam?
CISCE had not published the 2027 timetable when we checked on 2 October 2026. We will add it when CISCE does.
How much of the ISC paper is competency-based?
We have not confirmed a figure for 2027 from a CISCE document, so we do not quote one. Practising questions that apply and analyse is sound preparation either way.
Where can I find the official ISC syllabus?
On CISCE's own website, cisce.org. Other sites that use the CISCE name are not the Council's.
Should my child focus on the board exam or the entrance exam?
Both reward understanding over memory, and many topics overlap. Plan them together, and protect time for the board subjects that no entrance exam covers.
